Ok, so I have returned and I know what you are thinking... "it's been like 8 months since your last post." Or you may also be thinking, "isn't your original deadline long gone by now?" To both of those sentiments I will say yes it has been over 8 months since my last entry and yes my deadline has come and gone, however, as some of you know 2010 has been an interesting year...
Approximately two days after my last post in January, my father-in-law passed away unexpectedly. He was taken from us much too soon and 2010 was not looking too promising. Fortunately, we have a strong family and compassionate and loving friends who helped us through this unfortunate situation.
Exactly a week after my father-in-law passed away, I received a phone call from my dermatologist who told me I had melanoma (skin cancer) on my right calf. Fortunately, due to my hypochondria I managed to catch it just as it had turned, but I was going to have to have surgery none-the-less. So 2 days before Valentine's Day I went into out patient surgery and had the cancer successfully removed.
However, all of the work and muscle I developed over the previous month was now gone due to my inability to exercise with my leg for a month. The worst part was that once I was told I could go back to my exercise regiment, I only had 2 sessions left at Body Slam. Granted, I attended the last two sessions, but it just wasn't enough. Unfortunately, now that we were in the month of March, the next adventure had already been put into motion... the purchasing of our first home.
Ricky and I decided it was time to purchase our own home. We needed to settle down into one place and we were tired of moving every year. So with the help of a few friends and family, we managed to find a house we loved and started the process. Unfortunately we didn't realize how much of a process we were getting ourselves into. Two months after getting the contract on the house and after 4, 000 headaches (not to mention being homeless for a month) we managed to finally close on our house. This brings us to June...
This summer flew by and between finishing my Master's, getting the house together, taking care of our new puppy, and everything else, nothing regarding our healthy living has managed to hang around for very long.
HOWEVER...
Body Slam is providing another opportunity and this time Ricky and I an both participate. Body Slam offers a 90 day boot camp that meets three times a week in the evenings. This program is supposed to help get you on track and force you to work to your potential. Ricky and I both need to do this and this time we are going to do this together. We both have our own goals, but I know together we will be able to achieve them all.
So with that being said, I am reopening my blog in the hopes that I will reach my new goals in an effort to lose weight and become more healthy.
* Body Slam Boot Camp begins Monday September 13th 2010... More info to follow...
